We had a wonderful board meeting last night, Thursday Jan 24, 2013.
The newly elected board members all showed up a few minutes before the appointed time, 6pm, at Alou Traoré 's shop.
Alou, who is a faithful son of Mali, sells
audio and video and everything connected with telephones and clothes.
Alou
settled us into his office, welcomed us, and after the
meeting, fed us, and put on African videos and we danced. Especially
Emmanuel and Zemoria. Before we left, we joined hands and Zemoria
offered a prayer of thanks and triumph and hope. Amen we all said, amen.
The president of Africom Philly, son of Nigeria Vincent,
convened the meeting of the newly elected board, in order to elect
officers. Vincent carefully read the bylaws explaining the duties of
each member of the board, and the duties of each office, and called for
nominations.
After
declined nominations from others, the 2 accepted nominations for
Chairman of the Board were for son of Haiti Giordani and son of Nigeria Emmanuel.
Both nominees explained who they were, what they do in Philadelphia,
where they came from, and what they want to do for Africom Philly.
A
secret ballot elected Giordani Chairman of the Board. All other
nominations for positions were unopposed. Philip Udo-Inyang has long been a board member, executive leader: he offered his support, but
declined nomination for any position.
Officers elected were 1st Vice Chair Emmanuel;
2nd Vice Chair son of Angola Lumbo Salomon; treasurer daughter of Africa the Rev Zemoria Brandon and secretary, daughter of Australia, yours truly.
