UROC brought Philadelphia children to the country for Easter Saturday. SJ Dodgson. MJoTA 2014 v8n1 p0422.
Winter was brutal in Pennsylvania: colder, more snow, so many events and school days canceled. Easter Saturday was one week after Pennsylvania's last snow fall, and I saw no snow anywhere in Camp Fowler, 20 miles north of Allentown in the Lehigh Valley.
The kids were great: they had all got themselves up early enough to catch a 6am bus from a shopping mall across the road from Cityline Avenue, which divides Philadelphia from its western suburbs. I had a more leisurely start, driving directly north from my house in South Jersey at 7.30 and arriving 72 miles later as the Camp Director, daughter of Trinidad and Tobago, was welcoming the children and teachers.
The grounds are gorgeous, trails, a river, main house, bunk houses. Where I wanted to be all summer long when I was a kid.
The day was filled with classes and food and kids occasionally falling asleep on bunk beds for very short naps. The top picture, we all went down to the river, other pictures, taken during classes during the day. The bottom picture: the day ended with a formal banquet with every participant (including me) given a certificate of appreciation. Aw thanks Miranda! You are so welcome! And thank you so much for the wonderful Easter gift of hanging out with these great kids and teachers!
