In Sep 2012, at the Annual Legislative Conference of the Black Congressional Caucus, I had the enormous privilege of listening to a gifted orator with a good grasp of history and civil rights who battles evil in North Carolina every day. The Rev Dr William H Barber leads a church, and the North Carolina NAACP.
The talk he gave, about civil rights lost because of the enormous sums of money poured into breaking down unions. Permitting all humans in the US to drink at the same water fountains, eat at the same lunch counters, travel together, marry each other. The same evil that prevented all these things and created 2 militaries, the US Military and the Black Military: the evil had to find other ways to spill out and poison the 50 states and its citizens.
Evil is the default state in the universe. The universe is set up to be ruled by the second law of thermodynamics: everything turns into a mess unless you actively keep order. Fiddling randomly with the insides of a computer is more likely to destroy it than fix it. A bullet fired by a child is more likely to kill a teacher than clean out the plaque in the arteries to the heart.
