President Meles Zenawi has died... (AAJW)-Association of African Journalists & Writers
has received over two hundred email messages from supporters and
opponents of Zenawi from the Ethiopian and Eritrean Diaspora asking us
to make a stateme nt. We understand that
the late president is and will always be a controversial figure and that
feelings are divided of Zenawi's passing due to politics, economic
policies, human rights records and countless other factors that are
valid and legitimate, regardless of one's ethnic group or political
affiliation.
Zenawi's death has come as a shock and sad situation for
some but also as a relief to others...
However, that doesn't detract from
the fact that he was someone's father, someone's husband, someone's
brother...
With that said, may his soul rest in peace. Furthermore, may
the people of Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Diaspora heal...and move
forward.
May the people of the entire East African bloc nations, who are
also affected, also heal...and move forward. Thank you.
