The Republic of Panama connects North and South America, It is bordered by Costa Rica, Colombia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Ocean. The population is 3.8 million, and most speak Spanish. The creation of the Panama Canal was the most difficult engineering feat of the 19th and early 20th centuries; an extraordinary story. Watch the videos.
My connection to Panama is 2-fold.
I went through the Panama Canal on my 6-week voyage from England to New Zealand when I was 6. I remember sitting under palm trees in the evening in warm air.
And I know persons born in Panama; most notably Ms Anna Mae Walker, who comes from a newspaper publishing family and who runs Booklyn's Caton-Flatbush Market with military precision.
