Above,
Congresswoman Yvette D Clarke won the primary election in New York on
Jun 26, and was congratulated by her mother the Hon Dr Una S.T. Clarke,
New York State Assemblyman Nick Perry and New York State Assemblyman Karim Camara. In the middle is the owner of the Tropical Paradise Ballroom, son of Belize Mr David Gayle.

New
York constantly amazes me, because my brain continues to be unable to
comprehend the consequences of having huge numbers of people jammed into
a large land mass spread across rivers and islands. The only 2 ways to
drive out of Manhattan are by bridge over water and tunnel underwater,
and last night the Holland Tunnel had an hour-long traffic jam that
lasted until I managed to get through at 2am.
Ah, but the day was worth the night.
Since
before I could vote in Australia I have been volunteering in political
campaigns, and in 1978 I even ran for NSW State Parliament myself.
I
showed up at Congresswoman Yvette D Clarke's campaign headquarters
because the undisputed Queen of Brooklyn, former Council-member Hon Dr
Una S.T. Clarke, had posted a call for volunteers on Facebook. Once I
completed my duties as the mother of a high school graduate, I was on my
way and I showed up at 3pm in Crown Heights, telling Dr Clarke I was
there to work, and would clean toilets, anything.
Because all work has dignity. Once we decide a job is beneath us, we have lost our dignity.
They
had me calling constituents, finding out if they needed rides to the
polling booths. Many did, and Dr Clarke had organized a fleet of cars to
take them there and back safely. After a couple of hours I went with a
group plus the Congresswoman to gently remind commuters to vote. Then we
went back, made calls until just before the polls closed, this time
thanking people for voting if they had, and then we drove to Tropical
Paradise Ballroom to wait.
I have learned over the years that
parties are a lot more fun when the candidates win. Mr Davis Gayle, the owner of
Tropical Paradise Ballroom laid on cakes and champagne, and we danced to "We Are
Family" and "Don't Worry Be Happy."
So a traffic jam at 2am on the Holland Tunnel? The day was worth the night.

Why
is the mainstream press ignoring the victory of the faithful
American-born daughter of Jamaica Congresswoman Yvette D Clarke?
We heard she won, resoundingly, and
the Democratic elected officials were there to congratulate her,
including Councilmember Mathieu Eugene. This news was not picked up by
any of the mainstream media.
Well then, let MJoTA be the first
to announce her victory. Councilmember Yvette D Clarke will be the
Democratic candidate for the United States of America House of
Representatives in the newly redrawn 11th District.

Congresswoman Clarke's neighborhood in Brooklyn. SJ Dodgson. MJoTA 2012 v6n1 p0628
Another beautiful summer
day when the sky looks painted on, like it did on Tuesday, picture
above, when I drove into Brooklyn to witness first-hand the enormous
community effort that went into returning to Washington Congresswoman
Yvette D Clarke.
Congresswoman Clarke's campaign office is
on Nostrand Avenue, in the next block from a large Roman Catholic
Church. The only way to walk down Nostrand Avenue is slowly, dancing
down the avenue is better. Because shops play music with dancing beats,
and shops are selling everything.
But in the middle of the blocks of
shops is a well-tended garden with animals and children giving respect
to a woman. Love this. Picture below.
