During
the time of Jesus of Nazareth, at the same time Vespasian was Emperor
of Rome (AD 9-79) , Emperor Vespasian imposed a compulsory unpopular tax
on public toilets, the Jews were already very familiar with the cause
of children's death. Dirty toilets and diarrhea were not mentioned as
the cause of child mortality in that region.
The common cause of most
children's death were the following:
"1. Fell into a water well,
2.
Fell from a roof of a house,
3. Burned in an accidental fire,
4. Crushed
by a pile of stakes/stack of cooking wood when helping parents stack the
wood,
5. Choked on fruit (perhaps a grape, which is still a threat to
small children,
6. Kicked by a horse,
7. Run over by a wagon or car,
8.
Struck by a miss-thrown javelin at sports grounds, and
9. Stung/bitten
by a scorpion".
These were all natural accidents which resulted in a
fatality of a child. But today, in South Africa and Africa at large,
every 15 seconds a child dies of dirty Toilets, diarrhoea, dehydration, malnutrition, constipation and HIV/AIDS. A simple basic human rights issue of availabilty of a clean toilet for children is
killing more children than in times of Jesus, but this preventable. Let us
all join The School Toilet Revolution, It is SMATTT.
