81st Straight Success for Ariane 5

On Friday September 29, 2017, Ariane 5 completed a flawless mission following its launch from Europe's spaceport at the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), orbiting two new telecommunications satellites: Intelsat 37e and BSAT-4a. This was the European launcher's 81st straight success since 2003, the ninth launch of the year from the CSG, and the fifth launch of Ariane 5 in 2017.

CNES activates its Pléiades satellites to provide assistance to the population affected by hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma, which has been sweeping through the Antilles and Porto Rico since September 5, is expected to reach the American East Coast this weekend. In order to make all satellite tools available to rescue services, the International Charter "Space and Major Disasters", co-founded by CNES and ESA in 2000, has already been activated three times to provide assistance to impacted populations.

Creation of a New French-American Excellence Fund with UT Austin

The University of Texas at Austin and the Embassy of France in the United States signed an agreement in July 2017 to create an endowed excellence fund to support French-American research collaborations. The endowment will be named Dr. Cécile DeWitt-Morette France-UT Endowed Excellence Fund, after the French mathematician-physicist who served as a professor of physics at UT Austin from 1972 to 2017.
