Uganda in Philadelphia

More than 1,000 sons and daughters of Uganda converged on Philadelphia for 4 days starting Aug 30, 2012, and MJoTatalks was there.

On the second day, MJoTAtalks met Mrs Phibby Otaala, and Jackie and caught up with them again 2 weeks later, and was able to record this interview. You can listen to Phibby talk about the work she does in rural Uganda, trying to keep women alive as long as possible. Jackie works with Phibby: I did not interview her because she was clearly ill. Click on the arrow at right.

The interview has not been edited and we had technical difficulties 7 minutes into it.

However, if you bear with it, you will hear Mrs Otaala talk about her work, her life growing up with her widowed mother in the slums, and being rescued by a German couple who paid her school fees.

A story of triumph and absolute refusal to believe that she was capable of anything but the best.

Keep coming back for pictures.

Yesterday my friend Mrs Phibby Otaala called me and invited me to hang out with Ugandans while she and Jackie prepared for an evening flight back to Uganda.

Ah! Lovely lunch, conversations about being arrested in Kenya (mine was only for 19 hours; his was for a week), about when I was coming to Uganda, about Ugandan dress which looks very different from Nigerian dress, and an interview with Phibby. And prayers for journey mercies for them both, pictures above with me on Aug 31, 2012, and healing for Jackie, who is recovering from malaria.
