Carol Sallymatu Bangura: warrior queen for Sierra Leone. SJ Dodgson MJoTA 2013 v7n1 p0625
Carol is one of ours. I met her at the Philadelphia Mayor's Commission
on African and Caribbean Affairs. The fiorst time I noticed her, she was
handing out flyers, asking for donations of books. She never thinks
small, she was gathering 1 million books.
And then she was
talking about her organization working for improving educational
opportunities of African immigrant children. Involved in fights with
elected officials, courts. Carol is not intimidated. When I posted a
profile of an elected official I admire, Carol was quick to fight with
me.
I love her spirit, and I love what she is doing.
But I hate the inability of the government of Sierra Leone to look beyond their own pockets.
How
many times have I sat listening to Sierra Leone ambassadors and elected
officials ask for investment in Salone. I know what that means, bring
money into Sierra Leone that creates jobs paying subpoverty wages so
that the investors and the officials can be well paid so that capital
continues to rocket out of Salone.
Carol is representing a
different sort of investment. She is investing in humans. She is not
spending her time filling out green card lottery applications, she has
moved her body, her life and her heart and soul to Salone.
And
yet again, the government with its lack of interest in investing in a
functional, properly paid security, is stealing from Saloneans. Stealing from Carol. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Supplies donated for kids in Sierra Leone stolen: a whole container gone in Freetown. Carol Sallymatu Bangura MJoTA 2013 v7n1 p0625
When
I contemplated moving to Sierra Leone, was advised not to by an
African-American guy who heads a major NGO here. He wanted me to assist
in his org, but cautioned me that the very people you want to help will
hate you and betray you.
I didn't know what that meant until today.
In
prepping for my NGO launch tomorrow, I've discovered that someone, with
help has stolen 1 of 2 containers that held 7 CPU's and their
accompanying keyboards, headphones, microphones, etc.
I will hold my
peace and not ask who, what, why, and when, but from today, I will focus
only on vulnerable children who prayerfully can be untaught the craft
of stealing, lying, and betrayal that has permeated the system here.
what a damn shame.

My book is in Kenya! Carol Sallymatu Bangura MJoTA 2013
v7n1 p0622
Ran into my Aunty Mae a few weeks ago in
Freetown and she said she saw the children's book I wrote "Sallymatu's
Soup, 2012, ISBN 1105339327, M.S.Ed. Carol Bangura" when she was in
Kenya.
I've never promoted the book, but apparently, I have
an angel that doubles as my marketing agent.
My book is listed/sold on
many websites such as Barnes and Nobles, Amazon, Google Books, Ebay.UK,
Adilibris, Tower, Booktopia, Bookadda, Fishpond, Abe, and more!
The book is available in UK. USA, Africa and the most interesting
discovery is that Sallymatu’s Soup is for sale in India for 871.00INR.
I
don't know the conversion rate, but it made me smile.. a deep smile
showing my dimples:). God is good and this journey is like a dream.
This
picture is the artist's final drawing for the cover and reminds me that the
Lord has brought me a long way.
